Note: This trip name has changed to “Backroads of the Atlas” for Fall 2022

People have a tendency to look at me sideways when I told them I went on a “running expedition” to Morocco. And honestly, I thought I might have been crazy, too. But this was without a doubt the BEST vacation. From the guides, to the accommodations, to the chefs, to the scenery, this was an incredible way to be immersed in another culture & really get to relax (yes...relax while running!) & see the countryside. From the High Atlas Mountains to the coast, we got to explore some of the most authentic parts of Morocco, and we’ve made life-long friends to boot!

Ready to get off the beaten track?

This nine day adventure features the snow-capped High Atlas mountains, the otherworldly high desert landscapes of the Anti-Atlas and the breezy blue coastline of this beautiful and welcoming country.

You’ll explore the high-altitude trails of Imlil, run through dramatic mountain passes, test your bargaining skills in the souks, witness magical high desert sunsets, soak in laid back beach town vibes, and be transported to another world beneath thousands of of swaying palm trees in the oases.

Every day presents a brand new landscape and a brand new run, and multiple distance options are always available to ensure that you never have to run more or less than desired. Every detail is taken care of, from the wonderful meals featuring local cuisine and unique guesthouses to the route selection and sightseeing stops, and the small group set up ensures an authentic, intimate experience where great new friendships are quickly forged and memories made that will last a lifetime.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Participants will need a passport with at least 6 months of validity left. No visas are required for US, UK, Canadian or EU citizens in Morocco; travelers from other countries should check with their consulate for details.

At the time of writing (February 2022), foreign visitors are permitted to enter Morocco with the following:
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
and
- A negative PCR test result produced within 48 hours of boarding your first flight

Ultimately it is up to you to ensure that you have everything in order to get into/out of the country, though we will keep registered participants updated as things evolve! US citizens can get embassy updates here; travelers from other countries should check with their own consulate. Unvaccinated runners should NOT register for this trip at this time as you will not be permitted entry to Morocco.

For this trip you will need to arrive in Marrakech (RAK) no later than 3pm on Thursday, March 24 and depart the same place no earlier than 12 noon on Friday, April 1.  We will be there to meet you at the airport, and we will take you back there at the end of the trip. Please note that If you book flight times outside of these parameters you will be responsible for arranging your own airport transfers.

Please note that travel insurance is strongly recommended. Although we hope you never need it, we've seen enough to know that it can be a lifesaver in the event of a medical emergency, flight delays that cause you to miss the start of the trip, lost baggage or cancellation on your part (broke your leg two weeks before departure? Flight cancelled? Changing border rules prevent you from joining? Insurance could cover the entire cost of your trip!).

FAQS & COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS
Please note that this trip will only run if we are confident that it can be done in a reasonably safe, enjoyable and of course legal manner, and that all participants must be willing to abide by any and all safety measures that our guides and/or Moroccan government officials deem necessary during this trip. Much remains to be seen about the near-term trajectory of the travel industry, and while we will do everything within our power to make this trip happen it is possible that it may not be feasible.

For all 2022 trips: If we cancel a trip due to COVID-19 related issues you will be notified no later than 60 days prior to departure and will be guaranteed a full refund or transfer to another trip. If you use a credit from a previously cancelled trip then your credit will be extended, but a refund will not be issued. Please note that any preemptive cancellation by a participant will be subject to the normal cancellation policy.

You can find the full cancellation/transfer policy, along with the rest of the trip-specific FAQS here.
