The Land of Fire and Ice: Iceland is one of those mythical places that captures the imagination and lures travelers with a promise of raw, wild beauty and limitless opportunity for adventure; those who have never been dream of it, and those who have yearn to return. We have long dreamt of creating an adventure in the far north to run amongst the volcanoes, glaciers, crashing waterfalls, enormous lava fields and bubbling hot springs, and this summer has provided the perfect opportunity to finally make it happen. We can’t think of a better place to break our travel hiatus!

We’ve teamed with a local Icelandic partner to bring you dreamy trail running amidst otherworldly landscapes and we are going to pack a whole lot of it into just one week! There will be running of course, but there will also be river rafting, wildlife spotting, waterfall viewing, a visit to a currently erupting volcano (!!) and plenty of chances to kick back and soak it all in from the nearest natural hot spring.

Along the way we will stay at comfy guesthouses, sample all kinds of great local cuisine, settle into the rhythm of Icelandic summer life during those loooong daylight hours and get the full geological tour of one the world's most fascinating landscapes.

  • Alcohol and beverages other than water (note: coffee is provided with breakfasts)

  • Travel Insurance (get it!)

GROUP SIZE
There will be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 runners. If we do not meet the minimum by June 25 then this trip will not run; we will let registered runners know the moment that the minimum has been met!

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • As of July 1, vaccinated travelers will no longer be required to take a test on arrival. This means that you are welcome to arrive on July 27, though we still suggest arriving a day early for a chance to explore Reykjavic and as a buffer in case of flight delays/cancellations or an unexpected change to entry rules. There are very simple shuttle options from the airport to the city, and we will arrange a group pickup on the 27th for everyone who arrives early. We will email registered participants with more info and assistance!

  • Please book return flights NO earlier than 3pm on August 2 (and later is even better). At the time of writing, negative test results are required to re-enter the US, UK and Canada. We suggest adding an additional night in Reykjavic to ensure time to receive test results for re-entry into your home country, or book a flight in the evening; there is now a rapid testing center available near the airport, and we can arrange to get you there before your flight. There is also a “home test” option that will allow Americans to have results in time for an August 2 flight. We will keep the group updated on the latest over the coming weeks and make everything as simple as possible for everyone!

  • Full, frequently updated travel information is available from the Icelandic tourism board here. But in a nutshell, here’s the deal:

Iceland is one of the first countries in the world to reopen to tourists, and the government has laid out very clear procedures for those who would like to visit. As of July 1 2021, there are two different sets of rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers:

If you’re vaccinated, things are very simple:

If you’re not vaccinated, this probably isn’t the time to visit Iceland but you technically could, if you’re willing to quarantine. Click here for the current requirements.

  • Please note that travel insurance is strongly recommended. Although we hope you never need it, we've seen enough to know that it can be a lifesaver in the event of a medical emergency, flight delays that cause you to miss the start of the trip, lost baggage, last minute cancellation (break your leg two weeks before departure? Insurance could cover the entire cost of your trip!) or last-minute changes to border rules that prevent you from joining the trip.

FAQS & COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS
Please note that this trip will only run if we are confident that it can be done in a reasonably safe, enjoyable and of course legal manner, and that all participants must be willing to abide by any and all safety measures that Icelandic government officials and/or our guides deem necessary during this trip.

Iceland has been one of the least affected countries in the world when it comes to the pandemic and is making steady progress with its domestic vaccination program; the expectation is that a significant portion of the population will be vaccinated by the end of July. Masks are currently required on public transport and in situations where social distancing cannot be maintained between strangers, but everything is generally open and functioning normally; we will update all registered runners on current local rules prior to departure.

Given the current situation and enthusiasm for tourism in Iceland, we feel confident that this trip will happen as planned, and will be an amazing experience for all!

FAQS

The rules are a bit different than usual for this trip, given the quick turnaround time. You can find the trip-specific FAQs and cancellation policy here.
