ITINERARY

Please note that all listed run distances can be shortened or lengthened - all abilities accommodated! - and that itinerary is subject to minor adjustments due to weather, logistical considerations, etc.

DAY 1
Arrive in magical Venice, where we will meet and take you to our accommodation on the island. Enjoy the chance to explore the maze of alleyways and canals on your own before a big welcome dinner with the group and a good night of sleep.

DAY 2
We will start the day as the Italians do – at a cafe – then head to the seaside city of Trieste for a lunch of local specialties and time to explore the piazza and beautiful Austro-Hungarian architecture of the city center, which for an Italian city is a rarity. We then cross into Slovenia for our first run through the rolling vineyards of the Karst region. The run finishes at a beautiful 300-year-old restored farmhouse that we will call home for the night, and the day will wrap up with a gourmet feast and visit to the wine cellar.

DAY 3
After breakfast we head to the picturesque village of Bovec, set at the base of the Julian Alps. The run takes us through forest trails and lush meadows, past old stone churches and along the electric blue Soca River. After a picnic lunch we’ll have time to explore the area further – raft the Soca, hike to the waterfalls, learn about the major role that this area played in WWI. Later, we’ll kick back and relax at our nearby accommodation.

DAY 4
The day begins with another early run through the stunning Soca River valley. Return for breakfast before hitting the road to Croatia, where we'll enjoy a big lunch full of Istrian specialties and finish the day exploring the cobbled streets of romantic port town Rovinj.

DAY 5
Rest day! Sleep in, then enjoy a relaxed morning in Rovinj. We’ll then head to Island Cres, where a stunningly restored farmhouse - home for the next two nights! - awaits. Our hostess is a professionally trained chef who will both show you around the expansive gardens and ensure that you are well-fueled for your upcoming long run.

DAY 6
Get ready – today is the big run! Those who run the full route will cover nearly the full length of the island via both trail and road, featuring sweeping views of the crystal clear Adriatic Sea and picture-perfect ancient villages. Finish at the farmhouse with a locally-sourced gourmet lunch and an afternoon recovering with beach napping and swim time.

DAY 7
After a morning recovery run on the island, we'll head back to Slovenia. Our destination is the capital city of Ljubljana, where we’ll enjoy lunch in the picturesque (and car-free) city center, a walking tour and plenty of free time - we'll spend the next two nights here.

DAY 8
After breakfast we will head to Lake Bohinj for our final run – part trail run along an amazing river gorge, and part cruise around this pristine alpine lake. A light lunch and time to swim will follow, then we will head to Lake Bled for a chance to check out Slovenia’s best-known (and most-photographed) spot. Our final dinner will begin at 5pm near Ljubljana – make sure that you come hungry and ready for an indescribable farm-to-table dining experience! Many hours later, we will go back to our hotel in the center of Ljubljana, where you are free to go out (or just pass out).

DAY 9
Time to say goodbye! Enjoy a final big breakfast before transfer back to Venice where you’ll catch a flight home or connect to additional destinations.
