What a wonderful experience this trip was. Beautiful accommodations in every location and great runs that allowed all levels to run/hike each day. Great food and hospitality were found in all locations in Nicaragua. The coffee tour was informative and fun and the beach front accommodations were my favorite. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves on Lake Nicaragua was a truly a magical feeling. The group I was with were fun and easy going. Loved all the little details Rogue looked after and would travel with them again. Highly recommend Nicaragua and thank you to Rogue for welcoming me to this wonderful country.

RUN NICA

A diamond in the rough, Nicaragua has long remained a hidden gem with big rewards for those who take the time to fully explore it. Best known for a distinctive landscape dotted with lakes and volcanoes, those who venture to this beautiful corner of Central America will also find unspoiled cloud forests, serene Pacific beaches, coffee plantations, charming colonial cities and tranquil islands as well!

Beginning in the cool mountainous highlands of Matagalpa, we will visit the lush, green cloud forests of the coffee-growing region from a stunning private farm. Next, a short stay in the cultural capital of the country, the renowned colonial city of Granada, where we will tackle Mombacho - our first volcano ascent and explore the trails on its forest-cloaked slopes. Then, we’ll head to the mystical volcanic island of Isla de Ometepe for the main event - a hike to the summit of Concepcion, a spectacular (and very active) volcano that dominates the surrounding landscape. Well-earned recovery will take place amongst the swaying palms and hammocks at our lakefront retreat.

And of course, no trip to Nica would be complete without a visit to the Pacific coast: we’ll cap off the adventure with a treetop resort, a few final miles and a sunset catamaran cruise that you’ll never forget.

RUNNING REQUIREMENTS
This trip features an even mix of running and hiking. The tropical climate in Nicaragua is hot & humid, and the terrain can often be a challenging mix of volcanic rocks, root-covered trails and thick jungle foliage. This is not a trip geared towards those who want to log huge run mileage (see itinerary for max distances each day), but instead towards those who are up for big days of adventure - sometimes running, sometimes hiking - tempered by plenty of time to swing in a hammock afterward. Note that the hiking mileage may look low, but the volcano trails are very steep and very challenging - we will wear you out in the best way!

GROUP SIZE

There will be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 14 runners. Spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early deposits are recommended!

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Participants must arrive in Managua no later than 12pm on arrival day; we will have a group pickup and go immediately to Matagalpa, where we stay for the first two nights (roughly a two hour drive). If you miss this pickup you will be responsible for arranging transport via taxi.

If you would like to arrive the night beforehand (strongly encouraged!), we suggest staying at the Best Western - this will be our meeting place for those who arrive early.

Departing flights from Managua should be no earlier than 1pm on the final day. If you a book a flight earlier than that we can help you arrange transport but it will be at your own expense.

US, UK, EU and Canadian citizens will need a passport with at least 6 months of validity left; no visas are required. Participants from other countries should check with their consulate for entry requirements.

Please note that travel insurance is strongly recommended. Although we hope you never need it, we've seen enough to know that it can be a lifesaver in the event of a medical emergency, flight delays that cause you to miss the start of the trip, lost baggage or cancellation on your part (break your leg two weeks before departure? Miss the group pick up time on the first day? Insurance could cover the entire cost of your trip, or that additional transport cost!).
