Those who arrive early will enjoy a relaxed breakfast before heading out for the day with our local partner for a walking tour of Marrakech, exploring the palaces, the history and the famous maze-like souks (markets). Meanwhile, we will pick up the others at the airport and take you to our beautiful riad (traditional courtyard house). That evening we will all get to know each other over a delicious welcome dinner right at the riad, and afterward those who manage to hold off the jet lag can go experience the Djemaa El-fna (the central square of the old city): sample local treats, bargain for scarves, charm a cobra, jump into a drum circle or simply wander around and take it all in!
Fell in love with Imlil? Good, because you get to stay a bit longer… and earn your way to the best views yet! We’ll begin from our riad, warming up with a bit of pavement before hitting a rolling dirt road that winds above the valley and below the highest peaks in North Africa, eventually culminating with a challenging single track climb climb to a pass with a big reward at the top – 360 degree views and fresh orange juice! Cruise back down to finish back at the hotel for lunch on the sunny rooftop terrace and time to relax before a short trek to a local home for tea and another hearty dinner.
Okay, so we’re not quite ready to leave the magic of the Atlas Mountains just yet. Today we have one more spectacular mountain run for you to get up high and take in the views. Starting strong, we’ll climb up, up, up an old dirt track towards our mountain pass where you’ll be gifted with sweeping views of towering peaks, lush deep valleys, and small mountain villages below. Once you’ve reached the pass, we have a cruisy mountain trail to descend straight to lunch. Take your time, the views are epic and you’ll want a photo (or ten).
After a delicious lunch, we’ll load up and make our way towards the picturesque village of Ouirgane where we’ll get settled into a local and quaint ecolodge for the night.
The High Atlas Mountains were made for trail runners! This Morocco running tour offers soaring peaks, quiet dirt roads with panoramic views, endless miles of trails connecting valley after valley, rushing rivers, terraced gardens, and friendly shepherds. You’ll experience fascinating culture, warm hospitality, and delicious, fresh, local organic food.
Prepare to see, learn, and experience more than you ever imagined on this unique Moroccan running adventure.
The run tour price includes pre-trip communication & guidance, airport transfers, all accommodation, all meals/snacks from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on Day 9, coffee/tea/juice with breakfasts, water, transportation, professional drivers, experienced running guides, organized supported runs, and Rogue Expeditions swag.
In short, almost everything is covered for your Moroccan running adventure!
While there’s no set requirement, we recommend being comfortable with 3-4 runs per week of 4-6 miles (6-10km) each and a longer run of 8-10 miles (13-16km) for the best Atlas Mountains running experience.
The more hill training you can do, the better prepared you’ll be for this Moroccan mountain adventure.
Your Atlas Mountains run tour includes learning about traditional Berber mountain life, visiting a local family for tea, touring a rug cooperative, exploring village gardens, and bonus hiking. In Essaouira, you’ll explore the busy port, walk ancient ramparts, and wander the colorful medina.
Meals are an experience themselves, and you’ll have plenty of relaxation time at our hotels.
