Enveloped by the towering cliffs of the Tehuacan-Cuicatlan valley, the Maratón Varmex in Tehuacan invites you to chase the horizon on a road race like no other. This is a race that unfolds against the backdrop of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the mountains cradle the city and the sun casts a gleaming path before you.
The course carves its way through the heart of the city, offering glimpses of the ancient El Paredón murals and the iconic cathedral. The scent of nearby orchards lingers in the air as you push the elevation from 1642m to 1717m, your footsteps echoing off the cobblestone streets. As you emerge from the city, the beauty of the Tehuacan-Cuicatlan biosphere reserve unfurls around you, a stark contrast to the urban landscape.
In its third year, the Maratón Varmex has quickly become a cornerstone of the Tehuacan community’s athletic events.
Race distances include 10k, 21k, and 42k.
