RUN ALPE-ADRIA FAQS
This region has it all. The castles, ruins and vineyards of your European visions. The mountains, beaches & indulgent meals of your vacation dreams. Endless trails, footpaths and forests that beg to be run. And, most importantly, an off-the-beaten-track feel that lends itself to the type of surprises and travel experiences that cannot be written into any itinerary, but that must be discovered in person.
What’s included in the trip cost?
The trip price includes pre-trip communication & guidance, airport transfers, all accommodation, all meals & snacks, water, transportation, drivers, experienced guides, organized, supported runs, a chartered boat trip on the Adriatic, sightseeing entry fees and a Rogue Expeditions shirt. In short, just about everything is covered from the moment you land until the moment you leave!
What isn’t included in the trip cost?
The cost does not include flight, alcohol (though a wine tasting is included), tips or personal purchases/extra activities (ie rafting, ziplining, etc). There is also 1 excluded dinner in Ljubljana for the September 2019 trip, giving you a chance to explore and dine on whatever you wish!
Why isn’t the flight included?
Let’s be honest, we are all unique and your schedules (and originating airport!) are no exception. Come early, stay late. Participants will be responsible for booking their travel arrangements and ensuring that they arrive and depart according to the specific instructions for your chosen itinerary. Suggestions and guidance will be provided once you are signed up.
How far do I have to be able to run?
There is no set requirement, but we recommend that you be comfortable with daily running (or at least hiking!). All routes are adjustable in terms of distance, and plans will be tweaked according to the ability mix of the group. The itinerary lists the daily maximum run distances, but these can also be shortened as much as needed (and if you really want more mileage, we can make it happen!). As with all of our trips, you always have the option of taking the day off.
What sort of terrain will we be running on?
The terrain will be a mix of dirt paths, rocky trails, river paths, grassy meadows and a bit of asphalt here and there. Please note that the region is far from flat – work on your hill skills and pack trail shoes!
What time of day will be be running?
The time of day will vary depending on where we are and where we’re headed. We primarily plan for morning runs (after breakfast, before lunch), but it’s always possible that weather or other logistical considerations could require an afternoon run. The key is to just relax and roll with it – it’s not about “getting it in,” but rather about exploring a brand new place each day!
What will we do when we aren’t running?
Lots! We will visit caves, go wine tasting, learn about the rich history of the area, stroll through romantic Mediterranean towns, sail the Adriatic, have a chance to go river rafting and enjoy plenty of time for the most important local tradition: eating!
Can my non-runner spouse/friend come too?
Sure! Though it will mean more time spent in a vehicle, the panoramas along the way can entertain for days, and only a relatively small portion of each day will be spent on the run. They will still get to enjoy plenty of sightseeing, cultural immersion and relaxation (as long as they don’t mind hanging out with a group of runners!). Walking and hiking is encouraged and will make the whole experience even more fun for them; if you aren’t sure whether it’s a good fit just drop us a line and we’ll discuss.
What will the hotels be like?
The accommodation will be a mix of beautifully restored farmhouses, friendly B&B-style hotels and mountain chalets. We use unique, family-run establishments whenever possible for an authentic experience with local impact. You can expect clean, comfortable, memorable places each night!
What is the weather like?
Beautiful! September and May are both generally dry and sunny with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s – a bit warmer on the coast and cooler in the mountains.
Can I have my own room at hotels?
Due to the size and unique nature of most of our accommodation, single rooms are not available for this trip. If an opportunity for a single room opens up, we will make it available to registered participants. Trip pricing is based on double occupancy and solo travelers will be placed with a same-sex roommate.
What sort of food will we be eating?
Food is one of the biggest highlights of the trip! Menus will focus on regional specialties and traditions, which will differ as we move through various areas of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Meal styles will include everything from B&B breakfast spreads to picnic lunches to long, multi-course gourmet dinner affairs. This is a region that places much importance on quality local ingredients and in taking the time to enjoy them. Come hungry!
What sort of vehicles will we be traveling in?
We will be traveling in clean, spacious passenger vans.
What should I pack?
We’ll provide guidance and a detailed packing list after you sign up, but do note that both road and trail running shoes are recommended and that a handheld water bottle or hydration pack is required. A friendly reminder: packing light will make everything easier for you (and everyone else)!
How much should I tip?
Your entire trip will be spent with drivers and guides who will go above and beyond to create an unforgettable experience for everyone. Although tips are not necessarily expected, they are commonly given and very much appreciated. We will arrange a group collection at the end of the trip where you will be free to contribute if you wish, and any gratuities will be split amongst the team.
If I change my mind or something comes up, can I cancel?
We know that life happens, and on occasion a participant will have to back out of a trip. As most of our costs are paid well in advance, we have set a cancellation policy that applies to all trips. Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover potential cancellations on your part.
If you cancel:
Within 30 days of signup: Full refund
90+ days from the trip start date (but after the 30 day grace period): Deposits are non-refundable
61-90 days from the trip start date: 50% of total payment refunded**
60 days or less from the trip start date: No refunds
**This only applies to participants who have paid their balances on time. If you do not pay the balance by the due date and cancel after the fact, your deposit is non-refundable.
Can I switch to another trip?
If you wish to transfer your deposit from one trip to another you must notify us at least 90 days prior to your original departure date. A fee of $150 per person will apply and will be deducted from your original deposit. If you notify us less than 90 days prior to the proposed departure date the refund policy applicable to cancellations will apply. Deposit transfers may only be made once, and must be made to another trip departing within 12 months of your original departure date.
How do I sign up?
A $600 deposit will reserve your spot, and balances are due 3 months prior to the trip start date. Spots are limited, and are first come-first serve. Don’t wait!
